River Street

River Street runs parallel to the Susquehanna river, on the opposite side of interstate 88. River Street was one of the first streets in the City. It was an early Indian trail, later the mail route from Unadilla to Cooperstown. The Swart Wilcox house stills remains in the neighborhood, which is currently the oldest structure in Oneonta. At certain points the road ran closer to the Susquehanna River than it does now.

Based along one of the more populated streets in Oneonta, The River St. neighborhood is usually moving. Along the length of the street are examples of the various Nineteenth Century architectural styles, as well as structures of local historical significance. The Boys and Girls Club of Oneonta, as well has Riverside Elementary School are located in the neighborhood, bringing another portion of Oneonta's youth to the area.
