Information Technology Security

Welcome!  This site is designed to help the SUNY Oneonta community understand their role in ensuring the security of of our data.  IT Security is everyone's responsibility - faculty, staff, students, guests, contractors, vendors - all have a part to play in safeguarding our data and computer network. 

About IT Security at Oneonta

The security of information and the hardware used to manage it is of the utmost importance to the College.  The Office of IT Security has as its primary goals:

  • effectively manage the risk of IT security exposure or compromise within College systems; 

  • communicate within the College community the responsibilities for the protection of College information; 

  • compliance with the statutes and policies protecting the rights of individuals.  

  • the consistent maintenance of data integrity and accuracy.  

  • assurance that authorized individuals have timely and reliable access to necessary data. 

  • the denial (with reasonable assurance) of unauthorized individuals' access to computing resources or other means to retrieve, modify or transfer data.

Oneonta's IT Security Program

This comprehensive document was developed by a working group of faculty and staff and adopted by President’s Cabinet in March 2005.
