Faculty and staff machines on campus will automatically receive updates
to Sophos Anti-Virus. Students and off-campus users can use the
directions on this page to configure their computers to update Sophos on
a regular basis.
1) Begin the configuration by double clicking on My Computer.
2) In My Computer double click Scheduled Tasks (or on Windows 2000/XP double click Control Panel and then Double click Scheduled Tasks).
3) Once you are in the Scheduled Tasks, double click on Add Scheduled Task.
4) Click Next to continue
5) In the next box click Browse and locate c:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Update\iUpdate.exe. Click Open.
6) In the next dialogue box select how often you would like the update to run. Running at least once a week is recommended. Click Next.
7) In the next dialogue box you will need to enter a user name. This should be your user name on the computer you are installing Sophos on (possibly different from your Oneonta user name). Enter the password for this user in the two password boxes and click Next.
8) A summary of the task is now displayed. Select Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish and click Finish.
9) In the dialogue box that comes up you need to edit the contents of the Run text box. If your computer runs Windows 95/98/Me then you need to add sav95 at the end of the line after the quotes. If your computer runs Windows NT/2000/XP then you should add savnt at the end of the line after the quotes. Once you have added this click OK.
Remote update will now update Sophos Anti-Virus according to the schedule you chose. For Remote Update to work properly your computer must be connected to the internet when it runs.
If you have any problems with this process please contact the Helpdesk. |
