Welcome to the School of Education and Human Ecology! We are proud of the work that our faculty and staff do in the Professional Education Unit and in Human Ecology’s vibrant programs.
Human Ecology offers some of the most exciting undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the College: Nutrition, Fashion and Textiles, Food Service and Restaurant Administration, General Human Ecology and Child and Family Studies. Human Ecology programs in Nutrition and Dietetics are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Students gain practical experience in their internships and by engaging in the most meaningful forms of experiential learning.
The Professional Education Unit prepares future teachers under the auspices of NY State’s rigorous certification process. The Professional Education Unit, routinely referred to as the Division of Education, is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the highest standard of excellence in the U.S. The departments within the Professional Education Unit work together to prepare students for the challenges and pleasures of all levels of education, from birth to grade 12: Elementary Education and Reading, Secondary Education, Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education, and the Office of Education Advisement and Field Experience.
In addition to our many fine undergraduate programs, we also offer over a dozen graduate programs, including the highly acclaimed M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics, offered entirely online; M.S. degrees in School Counseling, Special Education, and Literacy Education; the M.S.T. (Masters in Teaching) in Secondary Education: Foreign Language Education; and post-baccalaureate certificates in Adolescence Education.
