To: Members of the SUNY Oneonta College Council,
the Presidential Search Committee and the SUNY Oneonta campus community
From: College Council Chairman Patrick Brown
Re: Dr. Nancy Kleniewski
On behalf of the SUNY Oneonta College Council I want to share
some exciting news: SUNY Interim Chancellor Dr. John B. Clark will
recommend to the SUNY Board of Trustees that Dr. Nancy Kleniewski
be the next permanent president of SUNY Oneonta.
Dr. Kleniewski was a superb candidate among several and we are
filled with confidence that she will be an outstanding president.
I commend all of the members of the Presidential Search Committee
for their tireless work on behalf of the College and I especially
want to thank David Brenner for his steady hand as the chair of
the committee.
The SUNY Board will take up the chancellor’s recommendation on
June 17 at its next meeting and I am sure Dr. Kleniewski will win
the Board over as she has all of us.
Executive Firm and Campus Meetings announced
December 3, 2007
Search Committee Chair David Brenner announces the following-
To The Oneonta College Community,
The executive search firm, Gyresinternational.com, has been selected to assist the College at Oneonta’s presidential search. Nancy Cook is the Principal with Gyres International working directly with the president’s search committee. The selection of this executive search firm was the culmination of a competitive process conducted by the College Council.
Nancy Cook has over twenty-five years of experience in executive search and recruited our past chancellor & numerous presidents in the SUNY System. Cook will be on our campus on Monday, December 10, meeting with all campus groups to listen and build a consensus. This initial visit and dialogs will enable Gyres International to gain a greater understanding of our college and to develop a position description. We encourage your participation in the appropriate meetings scheduled on Monday.
The presidential search continues to move forward. Carol Blazina, our campus liaison has been working with Gyres International to setup the following meetings:

Statement from David Brenner to the SUNY Oneonta Community
On September 9, 2007, President Alan Donovan announced his retirement after twenty years of service to our college and we regret that we must start a search for a new president. Under Section 356 of the New York Education Law, the College Council is responsible for undertaking this process and submitting its recommendation to the Chancellor and the Trustees of the State University of New York.
The process, in accordance with Presidential Search Guidelines adopted by the SUNY Trustees, calls for the establishment of a Presidential Search Committee that will include four members of the College Council, six teaching faculty, one student, one alumni representative, one campus related foundation representative, one academic dean, and one professional staff or support staff representative. This committee will implement a national search with the goal of identifying a group of very highly qualified candidates who will be invited for campus interviews during the final stages of the search. At that time, representatives from the various campus constituencies will have an opportunity to meet with these finalists and offer their observations and opinions to the committee.
A Presidential Search Office has been established and Carol Blazina, who serves as Vice President for Community Relations, will serve as Liaison Officer to provide support for the search process and its organizational structure. We will establish a Presidential Search web page so that pertinent information and important updates will be available to the college community during the search process.
This initial communication with the SUNY Oneonta community is designed to articulate the framework and initial steps of this presidential search process.
