From President Kleniewski
To the College Community
August 25, 2009
During the past
academic year, many of you participated in surveys and town meetings to
discuss the College’s future. Those activities were preparation for a
more formal strategic planning process that we are now ready to
undertake.
To begin the planning
process, I am announcing the creation of a Strategic Planning and
Resource Council (SPARC). Composed of faculty, staff, students, alumni
and community members, the council will develop a strategic plan to
guide us through our dynamic environment and to help us define the
future of our college.
The council will be
charged with conducting a campus conversation leading to a draft
strategic plan by April 2010. Its members will serve on a voluntary
basis without additional compensation. Some members will be selected by
constituents, and others will be invited to serve.
Distinguished Teaching Professor Dr. Lawrence Guzy
has graciously accepted my invitation to serve as
Chair of the Strategic Planning and Resource
Council. To assist Dr. Guzy and the Council,
Associate Provost Nancy Wolters will serve as
coordinator and Assistant to the President Glenn
Mayer will serve as secretary. In assuring broad
diverse representation for everyone in our campus
community, the council will consist, at a minimum,
of the following members:
3
members of the teaching faculty (to be elected)
3
members of the professional staff (to be elected)
3
students (to be selected by the Student Association)
Chair of the College Senate
Representatives of the UUP and CSEA
An
alumnus/a
A
community member
The President’s Cabinet
Additional members may be added as appropriate.
To
ensure that the strategic planning process is as
inclusive and transparent as possible, documents and
proceedings of the council will be made available to
all through a link from the College's homepage to
www.oneonta.edu/sparc.
Please watch that site and the Bulletin for
information about the election of representatives to
the Strategic Planning and Resource Council.
I
appreciate all that you do for our college, and I
look forward with enthusiasm and optimism to working
with the entire campus community as we shape the
future of our college through this important
planning process.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kleniewski
