From President Kleniewski
To the Campus Community
I am pleased to announce that several members of our campus community will be honored at our 2010 Commencement on Saturday, May 22. I look forward to your participation as we celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2010 and the accomplishments of our College.
At Commencement, NASA Astronaut and SUNY Oneonta alumnus Ron Garan ’82 will receive the honorary SUNY degree, Doctor of Science. Colonel Garan served as a Mission Specialist aboard the Discovery Space Shuttle during its mission to the International Space Station in 2008, and he is scheduled to arrive at the International Space Station in March 2011 aboard a Soyuz spacecraft for a six-month mission. His appearances at our College have inspired faculty, students, and alumni as well as the broader community.
Three members of our faculty and staff will receive SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence at Commencement to recognize their many contributions to the College:
- Dr. Cynthia Lassonde, Associate Professor of Education, will receive the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
- Dr. Mark Rice, Director of Counseling, will receive the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
- Mr. Dale Couse, Chief Janitor, will receive the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service.
Of course, we will also honor our recipients of the SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence, all of whom are members of the Class of 2010: Claire Albertson, Communication Studies and Art major; Wilkin Cabrera, English major; Julie Ann Dewey, Biology major with a Pre Medicine Concentration; and Kelly Wasilewski, Mass Communications and Business Economics major.
Please join me at Commencement 2010 in celebrating our achievements as individuals and as a campus community.
