From President Kleniewski
To All Faculty and Staff
January 20, 2010
Welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your holiday
break, and I look forward to seeing you at the Mid-Year Mingle on Friday
afternoon at the Morris Conference Center. Please join us in
celebrating the new year and the new semester.
We made a great deal of progress on behalf of our
college and our students last semester, and I look forward to continuing
our work this spring. From our campus-wide strategic planning to our
efforts in sustainability, I sense a renewed spirit of collegiality,
openness, and transparency.
In that spirit, I
would like to update you on developments related to the college’s
budget, which is likely to remain a significant challenge in 2010.
Based on the newly released Executive Budget
Proposal and information from SUNY, we anticipate that SUNY Oneonta will
experience another significant reduction in state funding in the
2010-2011 year in addition to the reduction of $1.3 million that we
sustained this year. The Cabinet members and Budget Office are working
with me to identify options for saving money and increasing our local
revenues, and we will be asking for your assistance. As more specific
information on the budget becomes available, we will share it with you.
I continue to be impressed by the strength and commitment of the SUNY
Oneonta community, and I appreciate each of you and your many
contributions. You are important to the success and vitality of our
college. Together we can make 2010 another memorable year for SUNY
Oneonta and for our students.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kleniewski
