From President Kleniewski
To All Faculty and Staff
While Hurricane Irene's impact on our campus was minimal, many nearby towns and villages were much less fortunate. We are a caring college, and to coordinate an institution-wide response to meet needs that continue to arise in the wake of this storm, I have asked Center for Social Responsibility and Community Director Linda Drake to serve as point person for our efforts.
If you need emergency assistance, or if you know a member of our campus community—employee, student or alumnus—who does, please contact Linda at 607-436-2633 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Linda also has begun organizing efforts in the hardest hit communities and welcomes volunteers to join these. She has set up the Hurricane Irene Disaster Relief Team from SUNY Oneonta Facebook group as a clearinghouse for information about relief projects. This group will connect those wanting to give their time or food, toiletries, childcare items and other supplies with the appropriate agencies and charitable organizations.
Finally, I'd like to recognize our Student Association and the Shipping Room, which have teamed up to organize a food drive, Starbucks, which hosted a cans-for-coffee event yesterday, and UUP, which has encouraged its members to volunteer their time and energy. And thanks once again to Linda for spearheading the college's further efforts and to all who help others begin to recover from this disaster. I'm sure that our contributions will be appreciated more than we know.
