Dr. Nancy Kleniewski has served as president of the State University of New York College at Oneonta since July, 2008. As president, she led the college through a collaborative strategic planning and budgeting process that focused the mission on high quality teaching and learning, student engagement, inclusive excellence, vibrant campus-community partnerships, global connectedness, and sustainability. Currently she is leading the campus through its second strategic plan, significant curricular realignment, and major facilities investments.
Trained as a sociologist, Dr. Kleniewski received her Bachelor’s degree from Emmanuel College in Boston and her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Temple University. She is the author or editor of five books and numerous articles on urban issues and urban policy. Dr. Kleniewski previously served as Provost at Bridgewater State University, Dean of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and a Professor of Sociology at SUNY Geneseo.
President Kleniewski has held a variety of leadership roles in professional associations including the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, American Sociological Association, Society for the Study of Social Problems, and Urban Affairs Association. She has also been active in numerous community and nonprofit organizations including the United Way, the Merrimack Repertory Theatre, and Lowell Transitional Living Center. She currently serves on the boards of the A. O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Bassett Medical Center, and Emmanuel College.
