Respected parents
I now take my in hand to inform you of our safe arrival in Michigan we arrived here on Wednesday and found our friends all well although there has been a good deal of sickness in the land and som deaths since Aunt Huldah and John left here --- we had very pleasant weather most of the time while we were out the road. it rained the first night that we were on the Canal Boat most of the time since that I have seen no rain we arrived at Buffalo some time in the night Sunday night we came through Middleport sunday morning the Capt stopped about a half hour Aunt Huldah and Sally and John sent to see Aunt Lees folks and John and I went on a foo about a mile to Hannahs sisters and got some of the best apples that I ever saw and when we got to Lockport all but myself went to see Elen Getchel and found her well but he was absent attending meeting. we could not find but boat in Buffalo that was agoing out that day and that would not stop at Erie so we concluded not to go to French Creek and (continued on p. 3)
