Excerpt from page 6:
"Breakfasted at woods at 8 and found we had gone two miles our of the way to our great chagrin. Our ride from there to DeRhuyter 19 miles presented nothing novel or interesting a part of the way hansomely cultivated farms. and all the way a superior road (came to the Albany turnpike two miles east of Smyrna) From DeRhuyter (9 miles) to Truxton (a small village) the land seems rich and the farms well cultivated Almost every step of the way presented some pretty rural scene, having the Onondaga branch of the Chenango on our left. We stoped a few moments at Truxton but found the house so comfortless concluded to go on and take our fate..."
