"...on board and immediately under the discharge of cannon the deafening roar of which produced very uncomfortable sensations. We sailed thro the aqueduct [] the eastern part of the town accompanied by several boats filled with the military and the populace. From there we returned to the bridge where Judge Sampson from the boat delivered an appropriate address giving a brief history of the first settlement of Rochester with a particular account to the canal...
