"...gladened with a warm autumnal sun S[]ceeding an April rain. The weather was fine and our ride to Guilford 12 miles pleasant.
Observed at at almost every house a pretty border of fall flowers however humble the dwelling liked the people all the better for it. we arrived at Oxford (20 miles from U...la) at 3 dined at Clarks hotel Genl Rathbon and Col Troup called to see us. both hospitable and polite. Found Oxford a beautifully situated village on the Chenango river containing two churches and a number of elegant dwelling houses."
