Voice of the People: Daily Life in the Antebellum Rural Delaware County New York Area

Religion

Religion Home page | Letters, Diaries, etc. | 1857 diary entry of Nathanial Arbuckle: Bought a church seat for the year for $10.00

Note: For serious researchers only: may be hard to read, as is the original
Background:  Nathanial Arbuckle was a native of Scotland and came to Delhi when he was 17. His usually terse diary entries give some idea of the daily life of a farm family in the Antebellum rural Delaware County area.  More excerpts are available under Business/Labor.

The Arbuckle family probably attended the Flats Presbyterian Church in Delhi, NY.  There is no mention of ever working on the Sabbath in his diary. Church attendees were required to purchase seats for the year.
