Excerpt from Page 3:
..."of any establishment, it might be well to do so. Having reserved the right & otherwise secured the water privilege, it seems a great lose to wholly loose it... I think I have explained to you & pointed out to Hugh how & where I wanted a sort of Hawhaw wall on the bank of the little triangle. and then small trees to secure the bank set out on the lower side--this could be done..."
.."As to horses, I want to mate to the colt & no other. And I want such a one purchased if to be found. And in making the purchase, the Van Horsen note should be used - in saying this I do not wish to have you go anywhere to look for one because I think your good resolutions are only to be sustained by remaining at home, independent of another []tion which ought to [] to you I mean that [offering?] all the means you can control for a purpose which should be very dear to you. Pray consult with your Sister & Oakley as to something useful list as utilitarian - talk farming with Mr. Stu[] - rise with the sun - work off all ill humor become as fresh as the mor[], and as vigorous as an oak. if you would have every thing put in good condition neatly, economically , & early you could entice some of the family to join you -- we are jogging on here much as usual - law business diminishing & money scarce..."
