Background: Samuel and Laura Sherwood moved with part of their family from Delhi to New York City in 1830. Samuel was a lawyer. They continued to summer in Delhi. Their son William graduated from a university, probably Yale, in about 1838 and at this juncture of his life is living in Delhi.
Note: Very difficult to read, as is the original letter

Excerpts from Page 2:

"...To be more serious what are you about?  Have you resolved to be employed, and to pursue something with [] & energy -  Every day wasted, is an evidence against you - perhaps you might engage in something about the House or farm that would be occupation - Suppose you & Hugh were to set a row of Maples on the bank ranging opposite the garden fence...."

"...The grove on our Island might be cleared of rubbish so as to make it a beautiful summer resort. A wild grape or two might be introduced so as to make a natural bower among the trees-the banks around the river and binnekills protected. In short, as the Spring opens, you might become very industriously employed, if not profitably..."

"Mr. S. used to speak of an oil mill.  I have thought of a paper mill.  If you could ascertain the cost & profit...
