Password Selection Guidelines

 
 

The most important things to remember when selecting a password is that it should be hard to guess but easy for you to remember and that it should never be shared with anyone.

Here is an example of a strong password that meets our policy requirements:

(DO NOT USE THE SAMPLE PASSWORD ON ANY OF YOUR ONEONTA ACCOUNTS!)

Your password must :

  • Be between 8 and 20 characters long (no spaces)
  • Cannot contain your first name, last name, or username
  • Cannot be the same as any of your last five passwords
  • Must contain at least 3 different character types:
    • Uppercase letters (A-Z)
    • Lowercase letters (a-z)
    • Numbers (0-9)
    • Special characters (` ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + - = { } | [ ] \ : " ; ' < > ? , . / )

And your password:

  • Will expire every 180 days
  • Should not be written down
  • Must be kept confidential –Never share your password!
