Newly Accredited
SUNY Oneonta has joined an elite group of institutions by earning initial accreditation of its business degree programs from AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Fewer than one in 20 schools of business worldwide have earned this widely sought hallmark of excellence in management education.
According to Economics and Business Associate Dean Wade Thomas, the newly accredited programs are among the college’s most popular. “This is fantastic news for the more than 500 students enrolled in our division’s majors as well as for our 24 faculty members, whose dedication to excellence in instruction, scholarship and college service helped make this achievement possible,” Thomas said.
To achieve accreditation, the college’s business program underwent a meticulous internal assessment resulting in the implementation of a mission-driven plan to satisfy 21 quality standards. Faculty qualifications, strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students, commitment to continuous improvement and achievement of learning goals in degree programs each are addressed in the plan. Also part of the process, external reviewers— business school deans with detailed knowledge of management education—visited and evaluated the Division of Economics and Business.
Founded in 1916, AACSB International includes educational institutions, businesses and other organizations in 78 countries. The association’s mission is to advance quality management education worldwide through accreditation, thought leadership and value-added services.
