HIST 547 History of the New Deal Era
Study of the depression and economic crisis of the thirties, the election and administration of Franklin Roosevelt, the program of relief, recovery and reform which comprised the New Deal and the response to it. In addition, the course will cover the important intellectual and social changes of the period including the rise of labor and the challenge of radical movements. The last fourth of the course will be devoted to the diplomacy of the era, the coming of World War II, and the role of FDR as wartime leader.
