ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Governor David Paterson has announced the
appointment of John Henry Young, Director of the Oneonta Job Corps Center,
to the College Council of the SUNY College at Oneonta. His term will run
through June 30, 2011.
Since 2008, John Henry Young has directed, supervised, and managed the
administration of all academic, vocational, business, and fiscal operations
of the Oneonta Job Corps Center, which is operated by Chugach Alaska
Corporation. The Center has a student body of 370 as well as 150 faculty and
staff members. He served previously as the Center Director in Oneonta in
2005-06 when the center was operated by Dynamic Educational Systems Inc./KRA
Corp.
Mr. Young has worked as Center Director at several Job Corps centers
since 1976, including centers in Callicoon, NY; Albany, GA; McKinney, TX;
Pisgah Forest, NC; Frenchburg, KY; Brooklyn, NY; and Puxico, MO. He has also
served as a park ranger and management assistant for the U.S. National Park
service.
Mr. Young is a graduate of Midwestern University in Texas, where he was
an All-American basketball player and captain of the university’s basketball
team.
Mr. Young replaces Daniel Curran, who resigned from the Council last
year.
Each state-operated campus in the SUNY system has its own College
Council. College Councils have specific statutory powers, such as naming
buildings and making regulations regarding student conduct. The members of
each council are appointed by the governor with the exception of the student
representative, who is elected by the student body.
