ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY College at Oneonta will present a program
by the Wolf Conservation Center of South Salem, NY, on Wednesday, December
5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hunt College Union Ballroom. Admission to the event
is free to SUNY-Oneonta students with a Student Activity Card, and a $1
donation is suggested for all others. Members of the community are invited
to attend.
Atka, a five-year-old Arctic gray wolf, will appear as the "ambassador
wolf" for the program. Participants will meet Atka and learn about the
history of wolves in the United States, the importance of wolves in a
healthy ecosystem, and the efforts to save this important but misunderstood
predator for future generations.
Founded in 1999, the Wolf Conservation Center promotes wolf conservation
by teaching about wolves, their relationship to the environment, and the
human role in protecting their future. The center also participates in the
Species Survival Plan and Recovery Plan for the critically endangered
Mexican gray wolf and the red wolf. More information about the center is
available on the web at www.nywolf.org.
The presentation at SUNY-Oneonta is sponsored by the College's
Outing Club. More information
about the program is available from Snapper Petta, the College's Director of
Outdoor Activities, at (607) 436-3455.
