ONEONTA, N.Y. -- In his first year at the SUNY College at Oneonta in
1988, College President Alan B. Donovan played goalie in a soccer game in
which over 750 players attempted to set a record for the World's Largest
Soccer Game. This year on April 17 at 8 p.m., students, faculty, staff, and
community members hope to attract over 1,000 participants to the
SUNY-Oneonta All-Weather Field to honor President Donovan in the year of his
retirement by playing in a game that may set a new record for the
World's Largest Soccer Game.
The event, proceeds of which will support the newly established
Alan B.
Donovan Scholarship at SUNY-Oneonta, is open to all, and members of the
community are invited to participate. Volunteers are being sought to assist
with the event and to play in the game.
The World's Largest Soccer Game 2008 is being organized by a group of
SUNY-Oneonta students, faculty, and staff, led by
Student Association
President Jared Lefkowitz. More information about the World's Largest Soccer
Game 2008 is available at
