SUNY-ONEONTA MUSIC PROFESSOR RECEIVES TWO GRAMMY NOMINATIONS FOR WORK WITH SPYRO GYRA
 

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Assistant Professor Jeremy Wall of the Music Department at the SUNY College at Oneonta has been nominated for two 2008 Grammy awards as a founding member of the jazz group Spyro Gyra. The group received its eighth Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album and also received a nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Performance when the nominations were announced last week.

Spyro Gyra's latest album "Good to Go-Go" and the song "Simple Pleasures" from the album received the Grammy nominations. Spyro Gyra, one of the most successful bands in jazz history, has a platinum record and two gold records among its many releases.

Jeremy Wall is a pianist, composer, and producer for Spyro Gyra. He received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Song in 1992 for his composition "Shakedown." He has recorded extensively as producer, keyboardist, composer, and arranger in all genres of music, having released over 70 of his own compositions.

Wall has taught at SUNY-Oneonta since 2002. He holds a master's degree from SUNY-Purchase and a bachelor's degree from the California Institute of the Arts. He taught previously at Ramapo College and SUNY-Purchase.
