SUNY-ONEONTA MUSIC PROFESSOR RECEIVES GRAMMY NOMINATION FOR WORK WITH SPYRO GYRA

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Assistant Professor Jeremy Wall of the Music Department at the SUNY College at Oneonta has been nominated for a Grammy as a founding member of the jazz group Spyro Gyra. The group received its seventh Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album when the nominations were announced last week.

Professor Wall is the composer of the song "The Lowdown," a featured radio hit on Spyro Gyra's album entitled "Wrapped in a Dream." The song was performed on campus by the College's Funk Band at this year's Homecoming Concert in October. Spyro Gyra, one of the most successful bands in jazz history, has a platinum record and two gold records among its 27 releases.

Jeremy Wall is a pianist, composer, and producer for Spyro Gyra. He received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Song in 1992 for his composition "Shakedown." He has recorded extensively as producer, keyboardist, composer, and arranger in all genres of music, having released over 70 of his own compositions.

Professor Wall has taught at SUNY-Oneonta since 2002. He holds a master's degree from SUNY-Purchase and a bachelor's degree from the California Institute of the Arts. He taught previously at Ramapo College and SUNY-Purchase.
