SUNY Oneonta is also ranked 10th among the top public colleges
in the North in the "universities--master's" category.
SUNY Oneonta President Nancy Kleniewski said that the rise in the
rankings is one indication of the College’s campus-wide dedication to
offering students a high-quality education. "At SUNY Oneonta, we dedicate
ourselves to providing an exceptional educational experience at an
affordable cost," said President Kleniewski. "The College strives for the
highest quality of teaching, research, and service to the community. We’re
pleased to be recognized by U.S. News, but our successes in those areas are
much more meaningful to us," she added.
Selectivity in freshman admissions remains a large factor in the
College’s high rankings in recent years. The College again accepted under
40% of freshman applicants for the fall 2009 semester from a record pool of
12,595 applications.
The annual U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on a set
of 15 indicators of excellence. U.S. News collected data from its survey of
1,400 colleges and universities and ranked the schools in categories created
by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The category of
"universities master’s--north" includes all colleges located in New York,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and the New England states
that grant master’s degrees.
