ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY
College at Oneonta earned the 57th spot in the top tier among
"universities master's--north" in the 2008 rankings of "America's
Best Colleges" released today by U.S. News and World Report. Last year, when the College first appeared in the top tier of the U.S. News rankings, SUNY-Oneonta was ranked 83rd. The jump from 83rd to 57th was the largest upward movement by any college in the category.
SUNY-Oneonta President Alan B. Donovan said that the College's rise in the rankings reflected a campus-wide commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of students' experiences at the College. "Our faculty and staff work hard every day to offer the best possible educational experience for our students," he said. "The high ranking by U.S. News is yet another affirmation of the outstanding efforts of the entire College community."
Selectivity in freshman admissions remains a major factor in the College's improvements in recent years. The College accepted approximately 38% of freshman applicants for the fall 2007 semester from its pool of over 12,500 applications.
The annual U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on a set of 15 indicators of excellence.
