Dawn
Sohns, a lecturer in the
Communication Arts
Department of the SUNY College at Oneonta, has received the College's
annual Award for Uses of Instructional Technology. She will be presented
with the award at a dessert reception in the Craven Lounge of the Morris
Conference Center on Thursday, February 15, at 7 p.m. Following the
reception, she will offer a presentation about the use of technology in her
class on "Creating Persuasive Campaigns." Admission to the event is free,
and members of the community are invited to attend.
Ms. Sohns will discuss how students in her communication arts class
receive hands-on experience with all aspects of designing and producing
a creative, unique, persuasive campaign and the technologies that they
use, including PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Word, Pro Tools, iMovie,
Final Cut Pro, DreamWeaver, and Photoshop.
Dawn Sohns joined the College at Oneonta faculty in 2002. She holds a
bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's in
organizational communication from SUNY-Albany. At SUNY-Oneonta, she
teaches courses in public speaking, business communications, persuasion
and propaganda, interpersonal communication, and group communication.
In recognition of the award, Sohns will receive $1000 from the
College's Fund for Academic Excellence, and the Communication Arts
Department will receive funds to purchase technology or to bring in a
distinguished speaker on technology.
The Award for Uses of Instructional Technology is made possible by
the generous gifts of College at Oneonta alumni to the Alumni Annual
Fund.
