1957 TIME CAPSULE FOUND IN WILBER HALL AT SUNY ONEONTA

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Workers at the SUNY College at Oneonta who are renovating the Wilber Hall residence hall uncovered a time capsule from 1957 in the building’s cornerstone yesterday. The time capsule contained a number of items, primarily publications, that were chosen by SUNY Oneonta students and staff to represent the College in 1957.

College archivist Heather Heyduk compiled the following list of the capsule’s contents:

> Map of Oneonta from the Chamber of Commerce

> Signature of College President Royal Netzer on College stationery

> "The Bell" freshman handbook

> Brochure on the Home Economics Program

> 1957 Summer Session Catalog

> "Presenting…State University Teachers College Oneonta, New York" brochure

> Annual Report, 1955-56

> SUNY Bulletin 1957-58

> Policies of the SUNY Board of Trustees

Workers discovered a similar time capsule in the cornerstone of Tobey Hall when it was undergoing renovations earlier this year. College archivist Heather Heyduk is cataloging and preserving the contents of both capsules.
