A presentation ceremony honoring Thomas-Smith will be held on Wednesday, September 14, at 1 p.m. in the quad between the Netzer Administration Building and Schumacher Hall on the college's campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Thomas-Smith will create a ceramic tile mosaic to incorporate into the campus’ Tapestry of Diversity Sculpture, which was installed on the SUNY Oneonta Campus by noted mosaic artist Haifa Bint-Kadi in 2010. In addition, a photograph of Thomas-Smith along with a narrative describing her accomplishments will be placed in SUNY Oneonta’s Physical Science Building.

“I am grateful to be working within the genuine community environment fostered here at SUNY Oneonta, where a commitment to inclusiveness and diversity is valued as an integral part of the college’s mission,” said Thomas-Smith. “I am particularly thankful for the support of my colleagues throughout the campus community as I pursue what I consider my true vocation: to help our students recognize their full potential and achieve their goals.”

Thomas-Smith joined the college's faculty in 2008 after several years as an analytical scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. In2009, she became co-principal investigator of a National Science Foundation-funded project entitled PREDICT (Predicting Results and Evaluating Data using Insights from Computational Techniques), which is designed to support the introduction of computational chemistry to the college’s chemistry curriculum through a graduated approach.
