ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The work of Tim Sheesley--artist, printmaker, and
director of the Martin-Mullen
Art Gallery
at the SUNY College at Oneonta--will be featured, along with the work of
other artists with whom he has collaborated, in an exhibition entitled
"Timothy Sheesley: Master Printmaker, Artist and Collaborator" at the
Roberson Museum and Science Center in Binghamton from April 3, 2009, through
March 1, 2010. Sheesley will present an artist's talk at 7 p.m. during the
opening reception on Friday, April 3.
The exhibition will feature hand-printed original lithographs produced by
Sheesley at his Corridor Press, which he established in Philadelphia in 1984
and moved to Otego in 1992. Representing his 25-year career, the 130 works
on display will include Sheesley's own art as well as collaborations with 70
other artists. The exhibition will also highlight aspects of the process and
technique involved in the art of lithography.
Sheesley's collaborators represented in the exhibit include SUNY Oneonta
colleagues James Mullen, Yolanda Sharpe, Sean Scherer, and Thomás Sakoulas,
as well as local artists Charles Bremer, Irwin Hollander, and Richard
Kathmann.
A 1977 graduate of SUNY Oneonta, Sheesley credits Professor Emeritus
James Mullen with introducing him to lithography. He went on to earn a
master's degree from Temple University and the title of master printer.
