On the day of the event, registration will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a kickoff ceremony at 10:15 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., the race will begin.

All members of the greater Oneonta community are invited to participate in the Heart Run and Walk, which is expected to feature teams from businesses, schools, towns, organizations, families, friends, and individuals.

Participants will collect donations in support of the fight against heart disease and stroke or in memory or honor of a loved one or friend. All participants 18 years of age or older are required to present a minimum of $25 in pledges at registration. Incentives are offered to those raising $125, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000.

"This is the 12th year that SUNY Oneonta has provided the setting for this great event, and it's shaping up to be our best one yet," said SUNY Oneonta Athletic Director Tracey Ranieri. "At the request of passionate participants and with some help from Oneonta Auxiliary Services, which will provide beverages and 'power food' for participants, we have added the outdoor run as our focus."

Proceeds from the event will support the American Heart Association. More information about the Greatest Start! Heart Run and Walk is available from Ranieri at (607) 436-2446 or by e-mail to raniertm@oneonta.edu.
