ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Roop Verma Trio will perform “Classical Music of North India” on Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. in the Goodrich Theatre located inside the Fine Arts building on the SUNY Oneonta campus. Admission to this concert will be free and members of the public are invited to attend.
In addition to the concert, band leader Roop Verma will present a lecture/masterclass on Classical Music of North India from 2 to 3:50 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in Room 212 of the Fine Arts Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.
An internationally respected sitarist and composer who studied under both Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan, Verma has appeared in concert on three continents, and his orchestral music has been performed in New York and Stockholm, Sweden. He is director of the East-West School of Music in Monroe, N.Y., and has taught at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. In 2006, he received a National Endowment for the Humanities Award as a distinguished visiting professor at Hartwick College.
