ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Hundreds of alumni, their families, and friends of the SUNY College at Oneonta
will return to campus for
Reunion
Weekend 2007 on Friday, June 1, through Sunday, June 3. In addition to
gatherings and athletic competitions, the College's Alumni Association will
present its annual awards in recognition of outstanding service to the
College.
The reunion celebration begins with golf and tennis tournaments
during the day on Friday and a kick-off party on campus in the evening.
On Saturday during a 10 a.m. reception in the Hunt Union Ballroom,
College President Alan B. Donovan will welcome guests to the campus, and
the Alumni Association Awards will be presented.
Also highlighting Saturday's calendar are a reunion barbecue at noon
at the Hunt Union, the dedication of the '57-'07 Gazebo--a combined
class gift from the graduating classes of 1957 and 2007--at 2:30 near
Science Building I, and the President's reception for substantial donors
at 4 p.m. Alumni artwork will be featured from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in a
one-day exhibit in the lobby of the Fine Arts Building. Following the
alumni reunion banquet at 6:30 p.m. in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni
Field House, Saturday's events will wrap up with a dance party at 10
p.m. in the field house. Events scheduled for Sunday include outdoor
activities at the College Camp.
Special groups gathering this year include Educational Opportunity
Program alumni, Women's Glee Club alumni, young alumni who graduated in
the past 10 years, and the 50th reunion class of 1957.
At Saturday's awards reception, the Alumni Association will honor
Edward "Bo" Whaley '75 with its Outstanding Faculty Service Award;
Sheila Sheridan Striffler '72, a dedicated volunteer and co-chair of the
College's "Changing Lives Since 1889" campaign, with its Distinguished
Alumna Award; Keith Bundy '62, '64G, a member of the College at Oneonta
Foundation and an active alumnus, with its Excellence in Alumni Service
Award; and College President Alan Donovan and his wife, Annie, by naming
them honorary alumni.
Edward "Bo" Whaley, a counselor and instructor in the College's
Educational Opportunity Program, recently announced his retirement after
a career of nearly 30 years at the College. He has been involved in all
aspects of the program's development from admitting students to serving
as a role model and friend. As the Coordinator of the EOP Alumni
Program, he was integral in developing the EOP Alumni Reunion, the EOP
Alumni Scholarship Fund, and the newly-formed EOP Alumni Steering
Committee.
Sheila Sheridan Striffler has served the College as a volunteer
leader for many years. With her husband, Robert '72, she serves as
co-chair of the "Changing Lives Since 1889" campaign, which has already
exceeded its goal of raising $10 million for scholarships, endowment,
the Milne Library, and sciences at the College. She serves as Vice
President of the College at Oneonta Foundation and Chair of its
Advancement Committee. A prominent resident of New Canaan, Connecticut,
Striffler volunteers with many organizations in her community.
Keith Bundy has supported the College both through his service and
his significant gifts. He established the Milon J. and Helen Ormiston
Bundy '31 Scholarship in honor of his father, who was Director of
Admissions at the College, and his mother, who taught at the Bugbee
School. His gifts also endowed the track at the Alumni Field House. Now
retired from his career as an elementary teacher, elementary guidance
counselor, and director of financial aid at SUNY-Cortland, Bundy is a
member of the College at Oneonta Foundation Board of Directors.
Dr. Alan B. Donovan has served as President of the College at Oneonta
since 1988. Under his leadership, the College has emerged as a leader
among the SUNY colleges in many areas including student and faculty
profiles, academic reputation, physical structure, and philanthropic
achievements. Annie Donovan is actively involved with her husband in
many endeavors of the College's Alumni Association. They have
participated in alumni events across the country, and they always
welcome alumni to campus.
Reunion Weekend 2007 is open to all alumni and friends of the SUNY
College at Oneonta. Some events require advance registration. More
information is available from the Office of Alumni Affairs at (607)
