ONEONTA, N.Y. -- As the final installment of the Spring 2010 Red Dragon Reading Series at the SUNY College at Oneonta, poet Robert Bensen of Hartwick College will read from his work at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, in the Craven Lounge of the Morris Conference Center. The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.

Robert Bensen has written five collections of poetry, most recently “Two Dancers,” which enjoyed five gallery exhibitions, including 13 months at the National Museum of Dance. His poems have been published in American, British, West Indian, Indian, and Native American journals.

Professor of English and Director of Writing at Hartwick College, Bensen is also the author of several studies of West Indian and Native American literature. He has edited anthologies of Caribbean and Native American writing, including “Children of the Dragonfly: Native American Voices on Child Custody and Education.” The recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, he has won many awards for his poems, including the Robert Penn Warren Award.
