ONEONTA, N.Y. -- As the first installment of the fall semester's Red Dragon Reading Series at SUNY Oneonta, author Rilla Askew will read from her critically acclaimed novel, "Fire in Beulah," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 7, in the Craven Lounge at Morris Conference Center.
This event is open to the public, and admission is complimentary. A reception and book signing will follow the reading.
"Fire in Beulah" is a searing portrait of the intersecting lives of African Americans, American Indians, and whites on the eve of the 1921 Tulsa Race Riots. Askew has authored two other novels and a collection of stories. Her numerous accolades include the American Book Award, two Oklahoma Book Awards, the Willa Cather Award, the O. Henry Award, and the 2009 Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
