ONEONTA, N.Y. -- As the first installment of the fall
semester’s
Red Dragon Reading Series at the SUNY College at Oneonta, author
Gretchen Legler will present a reading from her work at 7 p.m. on Friday,
October 2, in the Craven Lounge of the Morris Conference Center. The reading
will be followed by a reception and book signing. Admission to the event is
complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.
Gretchen Legler, an associate professor in the creative writing program
of the University of Maine at Farmington, will read from her most recent
book, On the Ice, which focuses on her experiences living in
Antarctica. Her work touches on issues such as rural life, homesteading, and
sustainable/organic agriculture. On the Ice won the 2007 award for
creative non-fiction from the Association for the Study of Literature and
Environment.
Essays from her acclaimed book All the Powerful Invisible Things: A
Sportswoman’s Notebook have been reprinted in numerous anthologies. The
recipient of two Pushcart Prizes, Gretchen Legler has published essays,
stories, and reviews in Georgia Review, Indiana Review,
Orion, Women’s Review of Books, and other magazines.
