ONEONTA, N.Y. --
As an installment of the new Red Dragon Reading Series at the SUNY
College at Oneonta, award-winning novelist Janette Turner Hospital
will present a reading from her novel "Orpheus Lost" on Thursday,
November 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Craven Lounge of the Morris
Conference Center. A reception and book signing will follow the
reading. Admission is complimentary, and members of the community
are invited to attend.
Janette Turner Hospital is the author of seven novels and three
short story collections. Her first novel, "The Ivory Swing," won
Canada's prestigious Seal Award in 1982, and her subsequent novels,
including "Oyster," "Due Preparations for the Plague," and "Orpheus
Lost," have won several other major literary awards. Born in
Queensland, Australia, Janette Turner Hospital holds an endowed
chair as Carolina Distinguished Professor of English at the
University of South Carolina.
The Red Dragon Reading Series, organized by the
English
Department at SUNY-Oneonta, brings a diverse array of writers to
campus for presentations to classes and the community. The series is
funded in part by Poets and Writers, Inc., with funds from the New
York State Council on the Arts.
