ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Producer/director Matt O'Neill, a documentary
filmmaker best known for his work on the Emmy-winning HBO film Baghdad ER,
will speak at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 14, in the Red Dragon Theater of the
Hunt College Union at the SUNY College at Oneonta. Admission to the event is
complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.
O'Neill and co-creator Jon Alpert won three Primetime Emmy Awards for
Baghdad ER, including Best Directing and Best Cinematography. Since
1997, O'Neill has worked with Downtown Community Television Center, an
independent non-profit media production center. Often focusing on
international subjects, his productions include Bolivia: Coca and the
Congressman, To Have and Have Not: The Changing Face of China,
and Turkey's Tigers for the PBS series Wide Angle; Siberian
Adoption Story for the Discovery Health Channel; and Venezuela:
Revolution in Progress for the Discovery Times Channel.
A native of Long Island and a graduate of Yale University, O'Neill has
received five New York Emmy Awards, including Best Political Journalism and
Best Societal Concerns Program. His 2002 PBS special about the New York
Gubernatorial race, Speak Up New York, won a local Emmy and a Sigma
Delta Chi award from the Society for Professional Journalists for Public
Service Television Journalism.
O'Neill's appearance at SUNY-Oneonta is sponsored by the
