ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta Newman Foundation, an association of
Catholic students, faculty, and staff at the SUNY College at Oneonta and
Hartwick College, recently announced the recipients of its inaugural
Catherine of Siena Award for Academic Achievement.
On April 29, the feast day of Catherine of Siena, the foundation
presented the award to SUNY Oneonta senior David Naples and Hartwick College
junior Cheryl Abbott.
The award celebrates the 40th anniversary of the charter granted to the
Oneonta Newman Foundation by the state Board of Regents in 1969 to foster
and develop the intellectual and moral life of students attending SUNY
Oneonta and Hartwick College.
The Catherine of Siena Award includes a scholarship of $250 to each
student, partially funded by the Catholic faculty of the colleges.
