SUNY ONEONTA MUSIC DEPARTMENT'S 1980s NIGHT TO BENEFIT SAVE THE MUSIC FOUNDATION

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Music Department of the SUNY College at Oneonta and the SUNY Oneonta club "Rock to Cure" will offer an evening of music of the 1980s on Friday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the ballroom of the Hunt College Union. Admission to the event is a donation of $3, which will benefit the VH1 Save the Music Foundation.

The evening will have several bands performing different styles and genres of music from the 1980s, including The Vernacular, led by bassist and SUNY Oneonta student Stephen Hamilton, and Outlaw Wheeler Dealer, which is the SUNY Oneonta blues band. The SUNY Oneonta Chamber Orchestra, led by Dr. Tim Newton, will accompany Outlaw Wheeler Dealer on some songs.

The night will feature a Madonna look-a-like contest, a 1980s-style dance competition, and chances to win prizes such as CDs and 1980s memorabilia. SUNY Oneonta student Sean Blaney of the student radio station WONY will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening.
Organizers of the event include faculty member Tony Scafide of the SUNY Oneonta Music Department, President of Rock to Cure Dan Mullins, and several SUNY Oneonta music students including Nathan D'Oria, Stephen Hamilton, and Brandon Snell.

Rock to Cure at SUNY Oneonta is a club sponsored by the SUNY Oneonta Student Association. The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in American public schools and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child's complete education.
