ONEONTA, N.Y. --
Dr. Suzanne Miller, Associate Professor of
Education
at the SUNY College at Oneonta, received the
Charles C.
Mackey, Jr. Excellence in Service Leadership Award from the New
York Association of Colleges of Teacher Education at the
association's conference on October 25. The annual award honors an
educator in New York State who has demonstrated personal and
professional qualities that exemplify the highest standards of
service leadership in teacher education.
Dr. Miller was recognized for her leadership in developing the
early childhood teacher certification program at SUNY-Oneonta,
involving her students in service learning and advocacy efforts, her
work in developing countries, and her speaking and writing on issues
affecting children and families.
Dr. Miller joined the College at Oneonta faculty in 1980. She
holds a bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College and a master's and
Ph.D. from New York University.
The award is named in honor of Dr. Charles Mackey, Jr., Executive
Coordinator of the Office of Teaching Initiatives in the New York
State Department of Education.
The New York Association of
Colleges for Teacher Education is a professional association
representing New York State institutions of higher education who
prepare teachers and other professional educators. It is the
state-level affiliate of the American Association of Colleges for
Teacher Education.
