SUNY-ONEONTA FACULTY MEMBER PRODUCES TEACHING VIDEO ON WHITE HOUSE PRESS BRIEFING

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Brian Madden, a faculty member in the Communication Arts Department of the SUNY College at Oneonta, put his experience as a reporter and anchor with several major media outlets to good use on a recent trip to Washington, DC. Madden--who has reported for CNN, Fox, UPI TV, and the ABC and NBC Radio Networks--produced a video for use in his classes at the College based on a White House Daily Press Briefing and his interviews with White House Press Secretary Dana Perino and several news reporters and producers.

Madden will use the tape to provide insight into the people and processes involved in a White House Daily Press Briefing for students in his Reporting, Broadcast Journalism, and Broadcast Announcing classes.

Madden assembled the videotape with a combination of his own material and coverage produced by C-SPAN. He produced, narrated, and edited the video for use as a teaching tool in Communications Arts classes.

Madden was given access to the briefing by the White House Press Office. Though the daily briefings are open to reporters only, he was allowed to attend because of his media background and his teaching responsibilities at the College.

Madden premiered the video in his Reporting class this week and will show it again in Dr. Arthur Dauria's Survey of Communication Arts class on November 1. More information about the video is available from Brian Madden at (607) 436-3049.
