ONEONTA, N.Y. --
Dr.
Karen Joest, Assistant Professor in the
Human Ecology Department
at the SUNY College at Oneonta, has been named the recipient of an
international Fulbright Scholarship. During the summer of 2007, she will use
the award to study in South Africa.
A specialist in
Child and Family Studies, Dr. Joest joined the SUNY-Oneonta faculty in
2003. She holds a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State
University, a master's degree from Chaminade University, and a bachelor's
degree from Indiana State University. Her research interests include
technology and feminist family studies as well as the implications of
incarceration for families and children. Dr. Joest is a member of the
National Council on Family Relations, American Counseling Association, and
American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
The flagship international educational program sponsored by the United
States government, the Fulbright Program
is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the
United States and the people of other countries. Since it was established in
1946 under legislation introduced by former Senator J. William Fulbright of
Arkansas, the Fulbright Program has had over 273,500 participants. Chosen
for their academic merit and leadership potential, Fulbright Scholars have
the opportunity to study and teach in each other's countries, exchange
ideas, and develop joint solutions to address shared concerns.
