ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Hundreds of alumni, parents, and community members will visit SUNY Oneonta for Homecoming & Family Weekend 2010 on October 22-24. The events scheduled for the weekend range from a faculty showcase of teaching and research to a performance by comic ventriloquist Lynn Trefzger, and from the annual craft fair to the twelfth annual induction into the College's Athletic Hall of Fame. In conjunction with Homecoming & Family Weekend, SUNY Oneonta will offer its first "Life of the Mind" on October 21-22. Combining the Faculty Research Show and the Celebration of Teaching, the event will highlight the teaching, research, creative activity, service, and other contributions of SUNY Oneonta faculty to the intellectual life of the campus community. "Life of the Mind" will feature public lectures by distinguished SUNY Oneonta alumni, faculty roundtable discussions, performances, receptions and other activities. It will culminate on Friday with a faculty showcase of posters, exhibits, demonstrations, and other displays from noon until 3 p.m. in the ballroom of the Hunt College Union. One of the highlights of the full day of events on Saturday will be the performance by ventriloquist Lynn Trefzger at 8 p.m. in the Hunt Union Ballroom. An award-winning ventriloquist/comedienne, Trefzger debuted on "Star Search" and has since performed with Jeff Foxworthy, Ray Romano, Drew Carey, and Faith Hill. Other events on Saturday include the annual craft fair from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Hunt Union, the re-dedication of Wilber Hall from 3-4 p.m., and the annual induction into the college's Athletic Hall of Fame at 10 a.m. in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House.
The 2010 inductees into the College's Athletic Hall of Fame are swimmer Robert "Sandy" Jones of the Class of 1972, soccer player Allecia Renee Tull Laing '01, baseball player Brendan Heslin '02, honorary inductee Richard Burr '62, coach James Baker, and the 1966-67 men's swimming and diving team.
The men's soccer team will highlight the intercollegiate athletic competitions of the weekend, taking on SUNY Cortland at 3 p.m. on Friday and SUNY Oswego at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The complete schedule of athletic events is available at www.oneontaathletics.com.
The events of Homecoming & Family Weekend will conclude on Sunday morning with the 2.6-mile campus Fun Run/Walk sponsored by the SUNY Oneonta Inter-Greek Council. Event registration begins at 8:30 a.m., the race at 9:15 a.m.
