ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Dr. Brian Haley,
an Associate Professor and Chair of the
Anthropology Department
at the SUNY College at Oneonta, has been elected as a fellow of the
Society for Applied Anthropology.
Fellows of the society are members who have demonstrated leadership
in the field and assumed responsibilities for the society's activities.
Haley was nominated earlier this year in recognition of his research on
changes in ethnic identities and the implications of those changes for
public policy. He passed a review of professional accomplishments and
received word recently of his election. Election as a fellow is
considered a mark of professional achievement and recognition.
Haley, who earned his doctorate at the University of California,
Santa Barbara, joined the College at Oneonta faculty in 2000. He taught
previously at the University of California, Riverside, and served as a
post-doctoral research anthropologist at the University of California
Institute for Mexico and the United States.
Dr. Haley's teaching and research address how ethnic, racial, and
national identities form and change; the social and cultural
consequences of capitalist agriculture, Mexican immigration,
globalization, and tourism; and the application of anthropology to
practical issues such as immigration, heritage management, and ethnic
relations.
