ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The senior class of 2008 at the SUNY College at
Oneonta expressed its thanks today to the City of Oneonta for the city's
hospitality through a day of service to the community called "Project: Give
Back." Using equipment and supplies provided by the city, the seniors
cleaned windows, painted fire hydrants, swept sidewalks, and did general
clean-up work downtown for two hours this afternoon to show their
appreciation.
Now in their final week at the College, the seniors undertook the project
to give back to the community and to strengthen the relationship between the
city and college students. Senior class President Matthew Harrington said
that the show of appreciation was important to the graduating class.
"We really wanted to show the city we appreciate all they do for us.
That's where the idea for ‘Project: Give Back' came from. We hope this
becomes another senior tradition for future years to follow up with," said
Harrington.
Oneonta Mayor John Nader kicked off the day of service with remarks to
the SUNY-Oneonta seniors, and local pizza shops donated food for the event.
