ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Joe Fab, the
award-winning documentary filmmaker, writer, and co-director of
Paper Clips, will
present a public screening of his film at the SUNY College at
Oneonta at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 29, in the Red Dragon Theatre
of the Hunt College Union. Admission to the event is complimentary,
and members of the community are invited to attend.
Paper Clips is an inspiring documentary film that captures
how students at the Whitwell Middle School in rural Tennessee
responded to lessons about the Holocaust by collecting one paper
clip to honor each individual put to death by the Nazis. The result
was a memorial railcar filled with 11 million paper
clips--representing six million Jews and five million gypsies,
homosexuals, and other victims of the Holocaust--which now stands
permanently in their schoolyard.
Paper Clips was released in theaters internationally, on
HBO, and on home video. In addition to many film festival awards,
Paper Clips was named one of the top five documentaries of 2004
by the National Board of Review and received the Jewish Image Award
in recognition of its promotion of cross-cultural communication.
During his visit to SUNY-Oneonta, Joe Fab will also speak with
students in education, history, and film classes at the College and
present a workshop for area teachers through the
Catskill Regional Teacher
Center.
