ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY College at Oneonta will will offer a
presentation on bald eagles by Scott Van Arsdale, a wildlife technician with
the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, on Tuesday,
December 11, at 7 p.m. in the Red Dragon Theatre of the Hunt College Union.
Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are
invited to attend.
During the program, which is being coordinated by the SUNY-Oneonta
Geography Department's
Environmental Planning class, Van Arsdale will present a digital slide show
featuring over 100 photographs of eagles in the northern Catskills area and
offer anecdotes of his field experiences. He will explain how the bald eagle
was extirpated from New York, re-introduced, and brought back to viable
population levels. The program's focus will then shift to the present and
move through a calendar year, examining seasonal influences and activities
of the eagles as well as the DEC's work with the birds.
More information about the program is available from Diane Carlton of the
SUNY-Oneonta Geography Department at (607) 436-3459.
