PRESENTATION AT SUNY ONEONTA TO EXPLORE NEW YORK'S DUTCH PAST

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Dr. Charles Gehring, Director of the New Netherland Project, will offer a presentation entitled "Uncovering New York’s Dutch Past, One Page at a Time" on Tuesday, November 10, at 7 p.m. in lecture hall #5 of the Instructional Resources Center at the SUNY College at Oneonta. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.

Dr. Gehring has spent the last 35 years translating 17th century Dutch documents from Nieuw Amsterdam (now New York City) and the colony of New Netherland. His presentation at SUNY Oneonta will examine how the Dutch have influenced New York since Henry Hudson’s 1609 voyage marked the arrival of the Dutch in the region.

Dr. Gehring’s appearance at SUNY Oneonta is sponsored by the College’s History Department, History Club, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and Public Events Committee.
